Data security is a critical requirement in modern oil and gas operations. As remote monitoring systems become more widely adopted, operators must ensure that sensitive operational data is not only accessible, but also protected, compliant, and securely managed.
HiberHilo is designed to deliver reliable remote well and pipeline monitoring while maintaining the highest standards of data security and compliance. By combining secure hardware, encrypted data transmission, and trusted cloud infrastructure, the system ensures that operational data remains protected at every stage.
While the user experience is designed to be simple, the underlying architecture is built with a security-first approach.
What Data is Collected
HiberHilo is designed to collect only operational data relevant to monitoring oil and gas assets. In most deployments, this includes pressure and temperature measurements. Depending on the configuration, additional parameters such as flow data can also be monitored. No unnecessary data is collected, and all measurements are defined by the operator’s requirements. For platform access, only essential user information is stored, such as name, username, and email address. This data is used solely for authentication and access control and is managed in accordance with data protection regulations.
Secure Data Transmission and Storage
Data security begins at the point of collection. Sensor data is transmitted from field devices to the gateway using LoRaWAN communication. From there, it is securely relayed via satellite connectivity to cloud infrastructure. All data is encrypted prior to transmission, ensuring that information remains protected while in transit.
Once received, data can be stored within our Cloud infrastructure, or local servers to support regional data residency requirements. Our flexible security options can be adjusted to client preferences to ensure compliance with regional data protection standards. The result is a secure, end-to-end data pipeline that protects operational information from the field to the dashboard.
Built-In Security and Compliance
Security is integrated into every layer of the HiberHilo system. The platform is compliant with SOC 2 Type II standards, verified through independent third-party audits and supported by regular penetration testing. Continuous monitoring is conducted to maintain system integrity and identify potential vulnerabilities in real time.
Hiber follows secure-by-design development principles and operates within controlled environments with strict access management protocols. In addition, all technology partners are selected based on their ability to meet enterprise-grade security requirements. These measures ensure that the IoT data security framework remains robust, resilient, and aligned with industry best practices.
Data Ownership and Access Control
Operators retain full ownership of their data at all times. Access to monitoring dashboards is restricted to authorised users through secure authentication mechanisms. This ensures that only verified personnel can view or interact with operational data.
Hiber’s internal teams have limited access, restricted to system performance monitoring to ensure that sensors and gateways are functioning correctly. Operational data remains under the control of the customer and is never sold, shared, or distributed. Strong contractual agreements and service-level commitments further reinforce data governance and ownership protection.
Security as a Foundation for Remote Monitoring
As oil and gas operations become increasingly digital, the importance of secure data management continues to grow. HiberHilo is designed to support this transition by providing a secure remote monitoring system that protects sensitive operational data while enabling continuous visibility across distributed assets.
By combining encryption, compliance, and controlled access, the platform ensures that operators can rely on their data with confidence, supporting safer, more efficient, and more resilient operations.
Enabling Secure, Data-Driven Operations
Reliable monitoring depends not only on data availability, but also on trust in how that data is handled. With HiberHilo, operators gain continuous access to critical field data while maintaining full control over security, privacy, and compliance. This enables organisations to adopt digital monitoring technologies without compromising on data protection.
